Medical Centre Nijmegen (Radboudumc) is one of eight University Medical Centres in The Netherlands, combining patient care, research, and education/training. The Experimental Rheumatology research laboratory at Nijmegen has a consolidated experience on the study and analysis of animal models of rheumatic diseases with emphasis on rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
The group is recognized as a worldwide authority in murine models of rheumatic diseases and aims to unravel mechanisms involved in inflammation and cartilage/bone destruction occurring during rheumatic diseases. Besides the evaluation of new therapeutic approaches, research at Nijmegen focuses on development of new diagnostic imaging systems.
The aim of the on-going research programme is the study of the novel genes and high throughput validation of promising targets of inflammation and cartilage destruction and the application of new therapeutic modalities in order to combat these crippling diseases.
