The mission of the Department of Medicine (DIMED) of University of Padova is to educate medical students, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows to the highest professional standards; to identify pathophysiological mechanisms, and to prevent and treat diseases. The Department supports staff members involved in both basic science and healthcare delivery. Divisions include pathology, laboratory medicine, pharmacology, anesthesiology, internal medicine, geriatric medicine, radiology, nuclear medicine, dermatology, exercise physiology, nephrology, hepatology, endocrinology and metabolism, haematology, rheumatology, and nutrition.
The Rheumatology Unit of the Department of Medicine at the University of Padova has a strong research focus on osteoarthritis (OA) in particular of the knee and hands. Their research has focused particularly on inflammation in OA and on the role of the crystals in this disease. The Unit has developed a multidisciplinary approach focused on understanding mechanisms implicated in OA initiation and progression involving clinicians and scientists.
